Add a CommentThis is a wonderful book about learning poetry in school, the loss of a pet, and inspirational teachers and writers. My only warning is that the part where the boy in the story writes about why he no longer has a dog is very sad, and might not be the best bedtime reading for a sensitive child. Overall it's uplifting, though, and very funny.
This is a beautiful book. :) I've checked it out from the library once every couple of years since I was about 11, and I'm now 17. It's definitely a kids' book, but one that everyone can relate to.
This book warms my heart every time I read it. I know that it's meant for a younger audience, but I still enjoy reading it now that I'm older. Sharon Creech knows how to warm your heart with Jack and his poems about his dog. It's very relatable for someone who has lost their best furry friend. It makes me cry every time. So amazing.
Cute and funny book, doesn't take long
Easy to read, great for learning about poems and poetry. We read this in grade 5 and our class loved it. All of Sharon Creech's novels are amazing.
it's good, but short.
Grade 4 - 8
An extremely short read, Love That Dog is highly amusing, as it is both humorous and poetic. I found it entertaining merely to fill in the blanks of what the other characters could be saying. This book was so happy and sweet, and I'd reccomend it to anyone looking for a smile.
Jack is supposed to write a poem. In a journal. For his teacher. And then she might post them on the bulletin board. With his name on it! So he tries to convince her how much he doesn''t want to write poetry even though he finds himself starting to like the poems she reads him in class. And soon he is writing about something so personal and close to his heart that he wonders if he can stop. This is a short book that ends up saying a lot.
